Fall 2018 Mindful Musings:

fall 2018: honor the darkness + replenish your light
View this email in your browser
A few weeks ago, you would have found me snuggled in the mountains of Colorado, camping by night, hiking by morning, and studying yoga mythology with Douglas Brooks by day. For two weeks in the woods, I was quite literally a happy camper, lighter and more vibrant than I had been in a long time.

Fast forward to the middle of October, and it's become quite a different story. The change of season is only a small part of the story; with all that's going on in the country and the world, it's hard to reconnect with that joy and hope that I had not so long ago.

I'm reminded of my Colorado mythology studies, where I learned that the darkness around and within are shadows cast by the light. The good and bad go hand-in-hand. During these heavy times it seems easiest to run away or give up, but often the most effective thing to do is also the kindest: take care of yourself. Honor and allow your personal darkness as a part of the larger picture that is you. Invite in tenderness towards your personal shadows and imperfections. Remind yourself that it's not you who is crazy, but it's the times that are. Build practices of grounding + tenderness, get into nature and build community. Read on for opportunities take care of yourself, honor the darkness and replenish your light.

Un abrazo,

Clearing by Martha Postlewaite

Do not try to save
the whole world
or do anything grandiose.
Instead, create
a clearing
in the dense forest
of your life
and wait there
until the song
that is your life
falls into your own cupped hands
and you recognize and greet it.
Only then will you know
how to give yourself
to this world
so worth of rescue.
